Friends and more...

I decided to volunteer after being a patient at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Before going into hospital I thought that being a vegetarian would be very problematic and I would end up having bland vegetables.

I was surprised and delighted about the quality of the hospital vegetarian meals and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was looked after.

To show my appreciation I started volunteering at the Women and Infants Research Foundation Café in 2002. I still enjoy working in the Cafe and have made good friends here.   Sylvia

Blessed with healthy babies....

I read about an Aboriginal woman who had come down from up North to have her baby at King Edward.

The woman described how the friendly staff and the environment at the Café and Gift Shop had made her stay in hospital enjoyable.

I felt that as a mother of three healthy children I had been blessed and wanted to give-back by volunteering in the Gift Shop.  Yvonne

Young at any age...

At 83 years old I am one of the oldest volunteers at the Foundation. I have been volunteering for 6 years in the Café I also make the homemade jams and relishes sold here.

I am proof that anyone at any age, who is dedicated, reliable and caring, can volunteer and help make a difference.  Win
